Jared Padalecki's “Walker” canceled after 4 seasons at the CW: 'Til we ride again'

The reimagining of "Walker, Texas Ranger" won't be back for a fifth season.

Walker is riding off into the sunset.

The Jared Padalecki-led crime drama has been canceled after four seasons, the CW confirmed Tuesday. "We want to thank the entire cast, crew, writers, directors and producers of Walker for their hard work and dedication over four incredible seasons," the network said in a statement. "We also want to give a special thanks to star and executive producer Jared Padalecki, who has been a member of The CW family for over 20 years and was integral to some of the biggest hits on the network."

Padalecki starred as Cordell Walker on the reimagining of Walker, Texas Ranger, which followed his character as he grieved the recent loss of his wife and grappled with balancing his duties as a father and a Ranger. The Walker cast also included Ashley Reyes, Keegan Allen, Mitch Pileggi, Molly Hagan, Violet Brinson, Kale Culley, Coby Bell, Jeff Pierre, and Odette Annable.

Padalecki addressed the "tough piece of news" in an Instagram post. "Our gratitude and love for the entire #WalkerFamily will live forever," he wrote. "It has been a unique honor to be a part of the cast and crew (and fandom!) that helped #Walker tell the stories that we told. I will forever smile on the years I got to spend with the cast and crew and studio and network and fandom that made this all possible. Til we ride again."

News of the series' cancellation was not surprising, given that the CW made no mention of Walker when recently unveiling its lineup for the fall 2024-25 TV season. Deadline Hollywood also reported Monday that production was preemptively breaking down the sets in anticipation of such news, and as Variety notes, the show was already one of only a few remaining original series on the network in the wake of Nexstar taking it over. The new owners have largely opted for sports and unscripted shows and done away with the more costly original series.

It may not be long until Padalecki fans see him on the small screen again, though. The Boys creator Eric Kripke, who worked with Padalecki on Supernatural, told EW not long before Walker's cancellation that he's been in communication with the actor for some type of role on the hit superhero satire series.

"Texts have been sent," Kripke told EW. "I feel like it would be a bummer to not have Jared on the show one way or another at this point, even if it's just the one-episode thing. He's been shooting Walker, but with that show wrapping up, maybe he'll have some time to come in and play with us. I would love it. We have definitely talked about it."
