Jared Padalecki has some big cowboy boots to fill. It’s been announced the Gilmore Girls and Supernatural actor will be following in Chuck Norris’ footsteps to star in the upcoming Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, simply called Walker.

Written by Anna Fricke, the revised version will see Padalecki playing Cordell Walker, a widowed father of two landing back in Austin, Texas after two years working undercover on a high-profile case. Once home, the man who serves as part of Texas’ most elite law enforcement realizes his work is far from done. Similar to the original series, Walker will team up with a female partner (one of the few women in the ranger world) to fight for what’s right (via The Hollywood Reporter).

It’s a big break for Padalecki that’s coming at precisely the right time. After 15 years of chasing monsters, CW’s Supernatural will be wrapping up in 2020. For the actor to land another big-name franchise in such sort order is definitely a win. What’s more, though the original Walker, Texas Ranger officially finished its eighth and final season in 2001, people are still influenced by the iconic series, including DaBaby.

The show is being developed by CBS TV Studios, with executive producers including Fricke, Padalecki, Dan Lin, Lindsey Libertore, and Dan Spilo. The series is currently being shopping to potential platforms.
