Supernatural star Jared Padalecki arrested for assault and public intoxication at Texas bar

Jared Padalecki was arrested in his native Austin, Texas, early Sunday morning on two counts of assault and one count of public intoxication, EW has confirmed.

The Supernatural star, 37, was taken into custody outside of Stereotype Bar, a bar he frequents and reportedly owns, at 4:16 a.m. local time after striking an assistant manager and the general manager, according to an official affidavit from the Travis County Clerk of the Court. Padalecki was released under a public recognizance bond later the same day at 2:30 p.m. local time, a representative for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to EW.

Records from the Travis County Clerk’s office obtained by EW show that Padalecki was charged with two counts of “assault causes bodily injury.” The office confirms the actor was charged $5,000 per each assault charge but does not show a bond amount for the public intoxication.

In video obtained by TMZ, a person believed to be the actor can be seen tussling with an unknown male on the sidewalk. A second clip shows the same individual speaking to officers while leaning on the hood of a vehicle. In a third clip, an unidentified person is taken into custody by police.

The affidavit confirms Padalecki had to be restrained by police after he put his hands on the chest of an investigating officer on the scene. He was also uncooperative with another officer during questioning.

Representatives for Padalecki have not returned EW’s request for comment.

The actor has starred on Supernatural since the show’s 2005 premiere. It is currently airing its 15th and final season. It was announced last month that Padalecki has signed on to star in an upcoming reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger. Prior to his role as Sam Winchester on Supernatural, he was best known for his work as Dean Forester on The WB’s Gilmore Girls.

According to the affidavit, one of the victims stated that Padalecki owns the Stereotype Bar. The actor promoted and attended the bar’s grand opening in 2018, sharing a flyer via his official Instagram account. The club’s Facebook page describes itself as “a music-centric concept, featuring rotating DJs – including dedicated vinyl DJ sets – video DJs sets and live music. Stereotype blends sophistication with retro and nineties flair to create an infinitely entertaining and approachable bacchanal scene.”

The affidavit states that both victims are pursuing assault charges against the actor. A court date has not yet been listed.
