A new Japanese restaurant is planning to come to Walker's Point in the former space of The Noble, 704 S. Second St., by the end of summer.

The new concept named Cute Robot comes from Janet Boettner, whose mother is from Okinawa, Japan.

Boettner plans to serve "Westernized Japanese comfort food," which includes things like okonomiyaki, a savory pancake dish; katsu sando, a sandwich made with Japanese milk bread; Japanese curry and Japanese omelet rice.

The bar will have Japanese beer, sake, cocktails and more.

The decor will be anime-themed, and the upstairs space will have tatami-style seating.

In 2022 Boettner helped open Japanese-themed bar Red Maple, 100 W. Maple St., but backed out wanting to open a concept centered around food.

"It just came down to I didn't want the bar feel, I wanted more of a restaurant feel," she said. "It was too hard to get a kitchen created in that space."

Boettner said she came across the leasing for The Noble space around the same time it closed in August last year.

The Noble closed quietly after 12 years in business, only leaving clues on its last brunch menu with drink names like The Last Lunch-able Bloody, We are so Sad to Go-gurt Mimosa and Do-nut Forget Me Honey Coffee.
