Japanese hit ‘Your Name’ Wins China Release

Toho has concluded a deal with Access Bright, a company that localizes Japanese games and animation for the Chinese market, to distribute Makoto Shinkai’s smash-hit feature animation “Your Name” in China.

The film will be released in China on Dec. 2, in both subbed and dubbed versions. The exact number of screens has yet to be decided.

With a total box office of $171 million as of Nov. 7, “Your Name” is the seventh-highest earning film, foreign or domestic, ever released in Japan.

Funimation earlier acquired the North American distribution rights for the film. The company today announced that “Your Name” has been added to the list of films being considered for a best animated feature Oscar nomination.

With offices in Shanghai and Tokyo, Access Bright has partnered with Chinese film company Enlight Media, as well as with such Japanese game and anime content providers as Kadokawa, Bandai Namco and Toei Animation.
