Japan Box Office: ‘Your Name’ Stays top in 12th Week, Beats ‘Museum’ Opening

TOKYO – Animation, “Your Name” held the top spot at the Japanese box office for the 12th week. For the Nov. 12-13 weekend the film earned $2.4 million, pushing its cumulative total to $171 million. By the end of the year it is forecast to reach the JPY20 billion ($186 million) milestone.

The highest earning new release, at number two, is the Keishi Otomo horror-thriller “Museum.” Released on 333 screens by Warner Japan, the film made $2.3 million on 180,000 admissions. Its final total should be in the $15 million ballpark.

Bowing at number three was the Tom Cruise action film “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.” Released by Toho Pictures on Nov. 11, the film scored $1.8 million. That was some 15% less than the 2012 franchise debut “Jack Reacher,” which ended its Japan run with $10.5 million.
