Janoris Jenkins speaks on death of friend killed in his home: 'It hurts my heart'

New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins posted a statement on Instagram on Thursday, his first public words since the death of his friend, 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene, a music producer known as Trypps Beatz.

Jenkins’ older brother, William Jenkins, has been charged with manslaughter in Rene’s death.

‘It hurts my heart’

In his statement, the end of which appears to have been cut off on Instagram, Janoris Jenkins wrote:

“With Regret and sadness I wish to inform the fans, and the public a good friend of mine Roosevelt Rene a.k.a. Trypps Beats (sic) was found dead at my place of residence. Trypps was a good friend and we were collaborating on music production together.

“It truly hurts my heart to know he has passed away. At the time of the incident I was in Florida preparing to finish off my promotional tour. As this is an ongoing incident, I cannot answer any questions related to the investigation. I am praying for Roosevelt and his family.”

There was at least one other sentence, which began, “I urge to,” but it was cut off.

Police concentrated on Williams Jenkins quickly

Rene’s body was found in the basement of Janoris Jenkins’ home in Fair Lawn, New Jersey last week, and police quickly focused on William Jenkins as a person of interest.

On June 27, police in Bergen County and Fair Lawn announced that William would be charged with aggravated manslaughter.

Family remembers Rene

In an interview with reporter Christopher Eberhart of the Rockland/Westchester News, Arabruny Lindor said she spoke to her brother, Rene, at least every other day via FaceTime, and he had mentioned his argument with William Jenkins.

“He showed a look of concern on his face, and that’s never ever my brother’s face,” she said. “I kept asking him, ‘What’s wrong?’ And he kept saying, ‘I’m alright. I’m OK.”

Lindor said her brother had a unique laugh, which his six sisters frequently mocked.

Rene, who had worked with current hip-hop artists Gucci Mane and Kodak Black, will be laid to rest on Monday.
