Janelle Monáe Cut Off by ‘Today’ During Speech on Police Brutality

Janelle Monáe was a guest on Today last Friday and popped up multiple times during the show to perform some of her music and be interviewed. It was a lot of screen time for the music superstar, but apparently not enough.

At the end of a performance in Today’s second hour, Monáe started to give a speech about police brutality but wound up getting cut off by host Savannah Guthrie.

Monáe said to the fans surrounding her, “God bless America. God bless all who’ve lost lives to police brutality. We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know that we stand tall today. We will not be silenced.” However, in the middle of that thought, host Savannah Guthrie’s voice-over piped in and threw to commercial.
