Jane Seymour Reveals the Incredibly Rude Comment She Received About Her Looks at the Age of 40

At 73, Jane Seymour is considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. She often talks about her preference to age naturally, but the Harry Wild star admitted that wasn’t always the case. When she was only 40, the consistent comments from photographers about her eyes sent her rushing to a cosmetic surgeon’s office.

“They attempted to do something to my under-eyes when I was 40 because photographers kept saying that I had bulgy eyes,” she admitted to People. “The doctor told me it’s actually a muscle, so there’s nothing I can do about it.” That’s when Seymour realized that she didn’t want to “do anything permanent” with her face because her expressions were necessary as an actress. She also has a good season of humor about her alleged flaw, joking that she’s had “quite a good career considering the bulgy eye.”

Seymour’s personal decision to not go under the knife doesn’t mean she’s criticizing anyone else for their personal choices. “So, I have nothing against people doing anything they want to do, but for me personally, it is not helping me in my craft, unless I’m playing somebody who’s had Botox, in which case, I would be all over it,” she added. If you want her best tip for her youthful glow, Seymour might have the best advice. “The best facelift is a smile,” she shared. “If you want to look young, just smile from ear to ear.” Note taken!

The Irish Wish star has been at the forefront of knocking down ageism in Hollywood by thriving at an age when the entertainment industry used to forget about women. Seymour isn’t looking at her past either, she’s only looking forward to the exciting experiences ahead for her. “A lot of people say, ‘Don’t you wish you were younger?’ and, in a funny way, no because I’ve had so much experience, and I’ve had such a rich life and made so many friends and so many extraordinary experiences,” she told Page Six in March.

For any woman worried about aging, take a page from Seymour’s playbook because her outlook is refreshing. “Life does go on, and I don’t think there is a sell-by date for women unless they choose it,” she noted. It’s a reminder that women are flourishing in all seasons of life and that aging is truly a special privilege that not everyone gets the opportunity to experience.
