Jane Rosenthal Lists Epic Manhattan Sprawler
More than a year after their divorce was announced in the New York Post, powerhouse producer Jane Rosenthal and financier Craig Hatkoff, who together with Robert De Niro co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival, hoisted their exceptionally spacious, multi-unit combination co-operative apartment at the legendary Dakota building in New York City for sale with a $39 million price tag.
It’s not clear exactly when they acquired it, or how much the couple paid for the suburban McMansion-sized 8th-floor sprawler, an epic amalgamation of four contiguous apartments that totals more than 7,500 square feet, with unobstructed city views and an unprecedented 165 feet of scenic Central Park frontage. There are two wood-burning fireplaces — one in the colossal corner living room and the other in the dining room — plus a comparatively snug library, roomy eat-in kitchen and three principal bedrooms that include a majestic 31-foot-long master bedroom with marble bathroom. There’s a prison cell-sized staff bedroom tucked up behind the kitchen, and in addition to the apartment itself, the property transfers with five separate, non-contiguous units: a self-contained studio-style staff suite located on a lower floor, and a gym, children’s playroom, laundry room and office space that all open off the public corridor that winds along the eighth floor.
The Dakota has long and famously been home to a slew of entertainment industry luminaries like Roberta Flack, Yoko Ono, Albert Maysles and Leonard Bernstein. Lauren Bacall’s long-time apartment sold last year for $21 million, and a 9-room spread reportedly once home to Judy Garland is listed at $16.75 million.
Like many New Yorkers with the financial wherewithal to do so, the erstwhile Hatkoff-Rosenthals have long kept a getaway in the Hamptons, where they custom-built a large house on a plum, 2.6-plus-acre pond-front parcel in the Water Mill area, picked up, per property records, in 1994 for $475,000.
