Jamie Foxx is ready to demand justice. The acclaimed actor stars in Amazon Prime’s forthcoming film The Burial, which tells the story of personal injury lawyer Willie E. Gary and his mission to help funeral home owner Jeremiah Joseph O’Keefe in an intense legal dispute. The release was adapted from Jonathan Harr’s 1999 New Yorker article of the same name.

The drama-comedy also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Jurnee Smollett, and Alan Ruck, and was written by Betts and Doug Wright. The Burial is set to premiere in select theaters on Oct. 6 before hitting Prime Video on Oct. 13.

A brand new glimpse of the film arrived on Thursday (Sept. 7), giving fans a sneak peek into Foxx’s charismatic role as a lawyer who has yet to lose a case in 12 years. “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, how y’all doin’? All of y’all who don’t know who I am, my name is Willie Gary,” says Foxx in the clip. “Litigation is war, it’s a battle. Bam!”

Film director Maggie Betts spoke with People last month and delved into why the Ray star was the perfect casting choice. “The real Willie Gary has a huge, larger-than-life personality, and I knew Jamie had the talent, charisma, and range to bring this complex and multi-faceted persona to the screen,” she said. “He was a perfect match for the role, and he brought so much more humanity and vulnerability to the character than I could have ever expected which, as a director, was very exciting to work with.”

Of the movie itself, Betts added, “The film is triumphant and inspiring, and will leave audiences laughing, cheering, and feeling deeply.”

The Burial will be the second on-screen release from the 55-year-old actor following his health scare earlier this year, the first being July’s They Cloned Tyrone. News of the unexpected setback first surfaced in June, with his family keeping an “airtight” circle of support around him. He has since made a full recovery and is “feeling like himself” again.
