Jamie Foxx says he didn't know if he was 'going to make it through' following illness

Jamie Foxx is back in front of the camera months after his family announced that Foxx had "experienced a medical complication."

Foxx, 55, who was hospitalized in April, shared a video on Instagram Saturday, updating fans on his "road to recovery" and thanking them for prayers during his journey.

"I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through," the "They Cloned Tyrone" star said.

Foxx said that although he knows people were curious to see him amid his recovery, "I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through."

He went on to thank his sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne Foxx, God and medical professionals for saving his life.

"I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way… And y'all know they kept it airtight, didn't let nothing out. They protected me and that's what I hope that everyone could have and moments like these," Foxx said.

The Oscar winner used humor to dispel rumors that he was blind, paralyzed or a clone, but did not disclose his condition.

"I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes as well, but I’m coming back," Foxx declared. "I’m able to work."

The singer also told fans they may see him "burst into tears" on occasion because "it’s been tough, man, I was sick. But now I’ve got my legs under me so you’re going to see me."

The "Unpredictable" singer has maintained a low profile since his family revealed that Foxx had "experienced a medical complication" and "luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery." Recently, he was seen out and about "celebrating summer" in Chicago, per a tweet he posted earlier this month. That day, he was spotted enjoying a boat ride with friends on the Chicago River.

The Foxxes have kept the details of his medical care private. However, the few updates that they have shared about Foxx's health have appeared positive.

"My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating," daughter and "Beat Shazam" cohost Corinne Foxx shared on Instagram in May. "In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday!"

"Jamie is well and healing and taking whatever time he needs to do that. I think we all just want to see him well," Teyonah Parris told USA TODAY earlier this month regarding her "They Cloned Tyrone" co-star. "Above all else, we just want him to be happy and I'm wishing him all the best on that journey."

Foxx and his daughter Corinne are slated to host “We Are Family,” a new game show in which hidden celebrities perform songs with their non-famous kin in front of an audience full of contestants who can win money for correctly identifying the stars. The competition show was announced as part of Fox's 2023-24 primetime lineup.
