Jamie Dornan has opened up about his now-iconic shirt-ripping moment in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, admitting filming it was far less glamorous than it looked.

The star takes on the role of Edgar Paget in the new comedy movie, with one shot (previewed in the trailer) showing him ripping his shirt in half.

However, opening up to Vulture about shooting the scene, Dornan revealed that he struggled to actually rip it up.

"The embarrassing thing was half the time I couldn't even rip it!" he recalled.

"I asked the costumer to cut it at the top so it would be easier to rip it, but I guess they didn't cut the bottom, so for the first take I was really confident at the beginning, and then I got like a second in and got stuck at the bottom, so I was sort trying to hop out of it in a pathetic way.

"But then we did two or three more takes where they cut the bottom so I could actually make it work."

Barb and Star has already been getting positive reviews, including from Digital Spy, who awarded the Kristen Wiig-starring movie four stars.

"To call it a trip is an understatement," we said. "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is a tumble down a piña-colada-fuelled rabbit hole. Once through the looking glass, it's an uncanny but thoroughly enjoyable time."

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is out now on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes.
