James Wan Doesn’t Get Why ‘Swamp Thing’ Was Canceled

This weekend was a bummer for James Wan, who took to social media to lament the abrupt cancellation of the DC streaming series “Swamp Thing.”

The “Aquaman” director was an executive producer on the now-dead DC Universe horror series, which followed the story of a Louisiana scientist who mutates into the monstrous protector of Marais while a CDC doctor investigates a deadly virus that could become a threat to humanity. The show premiered one week ago, but was suddenly cancelled by DC Universe just before the release of the second episode.

Despite this, Wan is urging DC fans to keep watching the remaining eight episodes of the show as they come out in the coming weeks, praising the cast and crew for their hard work.

“Don’t really know or understand why ‘Swamp Thing’ was cancelled,” Wan wrote on Instagram. “But I can tell you this — all the cast and crew, and producing/writing team poured their hearts into this. Really proud of everyone’s hard work. Go watch episode 2, and immortalize these 10 episodes. Swampy deserves it.”

As for Wan, losing “Swamp Thing” hardly leaves him without work. He will continue producing Warner Bros.’ “Conjuring” series, including the upcoming “Annabelle Comes Home” and “The Conjuring 3.” He is also set to produce a new film adaptation of the “Mortal Kombat” video game series and an “Aquaman” spinoff called “The Trench.” And, of course, there is an “Aquaman” sequel that Warner Bros. wants him to return to direct.
