James Middleton and Alizee Thevenet are introducing their newborn to a favorite family Christmas tradition at an early age.

On Dec. 7, Kate Middleton’s younger brother and his wife brought their baby son Inigo to a special holiday event. The new family of three attended the Dogs Trust Carol Concert at Chelsea Old Church in London with Mabel and Isla, two of their six dogs, and James read the poem “What I Learned about Love, I Learned from my Dog,” Hello! magazine reported. According to the outlet, James has long supported the charity dedicated to the welfare of dogs and has previously visited Dogs Trust rehoming centers across the U.K.

The event fell the day before James' sister Princess Kate’s third annual Together At Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey, which she attended with Prince William and their three kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. Other members of the royal family including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall attended the event, as did Kate and James’ parents Carole and Michael Middleton plus their sister Pippa Middleton and her husband James Matthews.

While James and Alizee attended the inaugural Together At Christmas service in 2021, which Kate organized to thank individuals and organizations across the U.K. who supported their communities through the COVID pandemic, they might have missed it this year for a relatable reason: new parenthood! James announced the birth of baby Inigo in late October, and the Dogs Trust Carol Concert marked the family’s first official event this Christmas season.

Speaking to Hello! about the show, Dogs Trust CEO Owen Sharp said, “Our annual carol concert is a great time to celebrate the work of Dogs Trust and the UK's love of dogs. We were delighted that James Middleton and his family were able to join us, along with all of our other guests, in this festive celebration.”

“We were especially excited to be joined by so many dogs for the concert, including Mabel and Isla, two of James's dogs, and all were incredibly well behaved throughout,” he added of the special guests.

An entrepreneur and mental health advocate, James has credited his late dog Ella as his strength while struggling with depression and said she introduced him to Alizee after running up to her at a restaurant in 2018. Princess Kate’s brother launched the all-natural pet food company Ella & Co. in 2020 and married Alizee in France in 2021 after a two-year engagement.

In July, James announced that Alizee was pregnant, and shared the happy news in late October that their baby boy had been born. The couple did not disclose the baby’s birthday, and chose a name with (fictional!) royal ties — Inigo!

According to NameBerry, Inigo is of Spanish/Basque origin and means "fiery.” Inigo was also the moniker of a character in The Princess Bride, William Goldman's 1973 novel that inspired the popular 1987 film.

"He has been in our lives for just a few weeks, but they have been the most special of my life getting to know our beautiful baby boy," James wrote on Instagram, posting a photo of himself cradling Inigo’s hand with a gold charm depicting Ella. "No matter how prepared I thought I was…I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion of meeting Inigo for the first time and the love for my darling Alizée as we became three."

The new Middleton baby also made Princess Kate an aunt for the sixth time. The Princess of Wales is an aunt to Pippa and James’ three children — Arthur, 5, Grace, 2, and Rose, 1, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son and daughter — Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2.

Last week, James posted an upbeat video where he ran a special errand with Inigo.

"So I've been finding myself popping down to our local Waitrose a lot more frequently these days to buy more... nappies," the proud dad began the Instagram clip, playfully holding up a pack of diapers.

“But there's something else you can now buy on the shelves of Waitrose, which is our brand new James & Ella Kibble + Raw dog food. It's been such an exciting journey to get here,” he continued of his company’s product now on store shelves. Over the summer, James rebranded his business as James & Ella, explaining that the new name would better honor the bond he shared with his beloved dog, who died in January.

Affectionately mentioning that “Inigo arrived along the way” of the news, James panned the camera to show the baby strapped to his chest in a carrier before the clip cut to him pushing a shopping cart with the kibble.
