Production on “Superman: Legacy” is ramping up, and James Gunn has the selfie to prove it.

The writer-director and DC Studios co-CEO shared the first photo of his upcoming Superman movie’s assembled cast on his Instagram account on Thursday. “After the table read with the #Superman cast,” Gunn captioned the photo, which was taken yesterday on the film’s Atlanta set. “Eve, Mr. Terrific, Superman/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time! What a wonderful day.”

To break it down further by actor and character, the photo features (clockwise from left) Sara Sampaio (Lex Luthor’s love interest Eve Tesmacher), Edi Gathegi (superhero Mister Terrific), David Corenswet (the Man of Steel himself), Terence Rosemore (Lex Luthor’s sidekick Otis, a bit of casting news revealed by the photo), Nicholas Hoult (who has shaved his head to get into character as bald supervillain Lex Luthor), producer and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, Skyler Gisondo (Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (transmutational superhero Metamorpho), Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan (Clark Kent’s love interest Lois Lane), Isabela Merced (superhero Hawkgirl), Gunn, Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns), and María Gabriela de Faría (shapeshifting villain The Engineer).

Notably absent from the photo is Milly Alcock, the “House of the Dragon” breakout who will be playing Supergirl.

Celebrities voiced their enthusiasm in the comments. “Baby Driver” star Eiza González said “break a leg,” while Elizabeth Tulloch, who currently plays Lois Lane on the CW series “Superman & Lois,” threw up some praise hands emojis.

And Nathan Fillion, who took the photo, joked “It feels like this was only yesterday.”

“Superman: Legacy” is slated to debut in theaters on July 11, 2025. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in March. It will be the first film released as part of Gunn’s reimagined DC cinematic universe.
