James Franklin's ribs hurt after TD celebration with QB Trace McSorley
Despite his team’s 28-14 lead, Penn State head coach James Franklin was mad about two things going into halftime.
For one, he was upset about PSU’s two offensive turnovers, including one that led to a Washington touchdown right before the half.
What else was he upset about? This:
That’s quarterback Trace McSorley giving his coach a loving forearm to the gut after his 48-yard touchdown pass to DaeSean Hamilton in the first quarter. It was all in good fun, of course, and McSorley and Franklin quickly followed it up with a hug.
Still, Franklin told ESPN’s Tom Luginbill that his ribs were bothering him after the hit. That’s pretty funny.
That kind of “celebration” is somewhat common on the Penn State sideline, including Franklin dishing it out himself. He did this to offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead after a touchdown in the Rose Bowl last year.

Maybe that’s part of the reason why Moorhead left for the head-coaching job at Mississippi State. Just kidding.
Penn State hung on in the second half for a 35-28 win. The win gave the Big Ten a 4-0 record against the Pac-12 in bowl games this season.
