James Franco Calls Miley Cyrus the 'Anti-Taylor Swift', Reveals He's 'a Little Gay'

James Franco is addressing everything from his sexuality to hosting the Oscars to his Instagram preferences.

In an interview with New York Magazine, the 37-year-old actor refers to himself as "a little gay," and says both "the straight press and the gay press" are "over focusing" on his sexual preferences.

"So, the first question is why do they care? Well, because I'm a celebrity, so I guess they care who I'm having sex with. But if your definition of gay and straight is who I sleep with, then I guess you could say I'm a gay c**k tease," he admits. "It's where my allegiance lies, where my sensibilities lie, how I define myself."

Franco has garnered quite a following for his artsy, sometimes NSFW Instagram posts, but as for Miley Cyrus -- who performed at the star's Bar Mitzvah last year -- and Taylor Swift's social media choices, he seems to prefer what the former Hannah Montana star is sharing. "Taylor Swift -- certain performers, in my opinion, post very kind of PG content. Appealing content, but nothing controversial," he explains. "Miley is the anti-Taylor Swift. She's not afraid to post something that will get criticized."

Franco received quite a bit of criticism himself when he hosted the 2011 Academy Awards with Anne Hathaway, but says the bad reviews didn't bother him. "In the best-case scenario, even if I killed it, it's not going to help my career because that's not what my career's based on. It was an experiment," he says of hosting. "If you go and host the Oscars and they get even an inkling of you trying to subvert it in any way or punk it in any way, people are going to get pissed, and that's sort of what happened."

He also reveals that Hathaway turned down the offer to host the Oscars until he convinced her otherwise. "Then we got a lot of sh** for it," he recalls. "You know, I think one of the things that happens in film, and television, and performance-based things is that people will criticize the performers because they're the face of the piece. We didn't write the script for the Oscars."
