James Corden Takes On Ellen in a Fierce Game of ‘Finish the Lyric’

James Corden joined Ellen on Wednesday for a game of Finish the Lyric, which should be pretty self-explanatory. You hear some lyrics to a song, the music stops, then you sing the rest of the lyrics for that part of the song. Hence the name. One would assume Corden would be pretty good at this, given his “Carpool Karaoke” prowess and the fact that he’s hosting the Grammy Awards this Sunday. But that wasn’t necessarily the case.

Corden got off to a fast start, finishing the lyrics for Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” but things slowed down for him after that. Corden and DeGeneres were both embarrassed to not know the lyrics to Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” DeGeneres then took the lead, first finishing lyrics from Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money,” then from Chance the Rapper’s “No Problem.”

On the very last song — Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” — Corden and DeGeneres hit the button at the same time and sang the lyrics at the same time. The light at Corden’s podium lit up, which would have made it a tie for the game, but DeGeneres was right there with him in singing the lyrics, which would have given her the win.

The game was hosted by Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who may want to work on his hosting skills if he plans to host anything in the future.
