James Corden and Cyndi Lauper Parody Gender Wage Gap With ‘Girls Just Want Equal Funds’

The Late Late Show loves incorporating music into the broadcast, no matter how ridiculous or politically charged it might be. Cyndi Lauper was a guest on the program, where she did a parody of her own song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” The subject? Our gender pay gap, with the song being titled “Girls Just Want Equal Funds.” After Lauper entered and sang a verse, host James Corden joined her in full Lauper regalia to help sing the tune.

The song they are parodying may be dated, but the current subject matter is not. A study from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research found that in 2015, woman working full-time made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men. The parody also addressed women needing a sweater at the office (office temperatures are typically set for the metabolic rates of men, according to another study) and those stupid female movie tropes of women running from danger while wearing heels.
