‘All the Demons Are Here’

What it’s about: The popular CNN anchor is also a novelist. His latest thriller, set in 1970s America, follows Ike and Lucy, children of Senator Charlie and Margaret Marder. As the story unfolds, Ike, an AWOL and disillusioned U.S. Marine, and ace reporter Lucy, who’s in tight with the wealthy conservative tabloid owners she works for, careen toward a violent confrontation.

The buzz: The celebrity endorsements are in! Elizabeth Banks gave the book her seal of approval in a July 3 Instagram post, writing, “I brought this all-American book by a wonderful American @jaketapper to read while I’m not in America but celebrating America’s birthday. Congrats friend on All The Demons Are Here. … and happy 4th all.”

‘An Evil Heart’

By Linda Castillo (Minotaur, fiction)

What it’s about: Who would kill a 20-year-old Amish man from an upstanding family with a crossbow and leave his body on a dirt road? Aden Karn was well loved, but as police chief Kate Burkholder investigates, she begins to hear whispers of his dark side.

The buzz: “Castillo’s punchy prose and well-developed characters keep the pages turning,” says Publishers Weekly.

By David Lipsky (Norton, nonfiction)

What it’s about: Lipsky offers a history of climate science – and with it, climate denial – starring a large cast of swindlers, zealots, politicians and hucksters to get to the heart of virulent anti-science ideologies in America.

The buzz: A starred Kirkus review calls it “an important book that will leave your head shaking.”

‘Do Tell’

By Lindsay Lynch (Doubleday, fiction)

What it’s about: In the Golden Age of Hollywood, character actress Edie O’Dare turns gossip columnist, using her access and contacts to publish the secrets of former friends and colleagues and finds herself embroiled in the trial of the decade.

The buzz: “Lovers of the silver screen will be drawn to this,” says Publishers Weekly.
