Jake Revealed as Mellie's Running Mate on 'Scandal'
On the season finale of Scandal, Olivia searched for a running mate for Mellie. Jake, Olivia’s ex-boyfriend, was being threatened by Olivia’s father, Rowan. In order to save him, Olivia decided to make Jake untouchable — as Mellie’s VP candidate.
She was able to convince Mellie, but the tougher sell was Rowan. Olivia met Jake at his house, with Rowan hovering over him. With Jake being at his beck and call, Rowan was not happy to let Jake go. As Olivia tried to get Jake to leave and join the campaign, Rowan pulled a gun on him. Luckily, Rowan couldn’t bring himself to shoot his colleague.
Once he was free from the grip of Rowan Pope, Jake was hesitant to sign up for the job as VP. He had second thoughts, dreaming of owning an unremarkable house and leading an easy, unremarkable life instead. Olivia fired back, “Mediocrity is not an option for me. I don’t want that, and neither should you.”
Jake accepted the VP nomination, to Olivia’s satisfaction. Oddly enough, Rowan watched on and said, “That’s my girl,” leading us to believe that all of this was part of Rowan’s master plan.
Scandal airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
