Jake Gyllenhaal's Embarrassing 'Lord of the Rings' Audition Fail

Jake Gyllenhaal journeyed to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he talked about auditioning for the role of Frodo in The Lord of the Rings. Even though he has had many bad auditions, apparently this was the bad audition to rule them all.

Gyllenhaal said it was tough because the fist scene didn’t have any dialogue, so he just mimed picking up a ring out of a box. He must not have impressed the director, Peter Jackson, very much because Jackson’s reaction was just to put his face in his hands.

The second scene was even worse because Gyllenhaal didn’t know he was supposed to speak with a British accent, which prompted Jackson to say, “You are the worst actor I have ever seen. Did anyone tell you you were supposed to have an accent?” When Gyllenhaal told him no, Jackson said, “Well, then fire your agents.”
