Jake Gyllenhaal Pays Tribute to Late Patrick Swayze Ahead of “Road House” Remake: 'I'll Never Forget His Kindness'

"I've never stopped being a fan," Gyllenhaal, who previously starred with the late Swayze in 'Donnie Darko,' captioned a throwback photo of the pair

Being part of the upcoming remake of Road House is extra special to Jake Gyllenhaal, considering the original starred one of his heroes.

On Sunday, Gyllenhaal shared a throwback photo of himself and original star Patrick Swayze to his Instagram grid from 2003, reflecting on their time working together and the lessons he learned from the late Swayze.

"I’ve been thinking back about my time working with Patrick on Donnie Darko, and rewatching this great man in the original Road House plus so many other films," wrote Gyllenhaal, 43. "I’ve never stopped being a fan. He was such a talent and I continue to have so much respect and admiration for what he put out and into the world."

"I’ll never forget his kindness to me when I was starting out — he didn’t have to take the time, but he always did," the actor continued. "We’ve made a different RH this time around, but hoping it’s one he would’ve had fun watching!"

Directed by Douglas Liman, the upcoming Road House is a reimagining of the 1989 one in which late star Swayze played a hard-hitting bouncer responsible for laying down the law at a rowdy bar. That film also featured Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliott.

In the new Road House, Gyllenhaal plays Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who "takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems," per a synopsis.

"I'm thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy,” Liman, 58, said in a previous statement. “And I can't wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role."

The new movie also stars Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp and Darren Barnet, plus MMA fighter Conor McGregor in his first-ever movie role.

Released in 2001, Donnie Darko also starred Jake's sister Maggie Gyllenhaal, Holmes Osborne, Daveigh Chase, Mary McDonnell, Drew Barrymore, Jena Malone, Beth Grant and Seth Rogen.

Gyllenhaal previously remembered working with Swayze, who died in 2009 at age 57 following a battle with pancreatic cancer, telling Entertainment Tonight in 2017, per the Salina Journal, "I remember being really young and he was so supportive and kind."

"I remember Patrick Swayze having an electric scooter and driving back and forth and he was such a lovely man, he was just filled with so much love and kindness," he continued.

"And then I have this really crazy picture I took of him on his electric scooter, and he just looks like this wonderful mad man," Gyllenhaal added to ET, per the Journal.

Road House is on Prime Video March 21.
