Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette buys Rolex watches for offensive linemen
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Leonard Fournette finished eighth in the NFL in rushing this season, tallying 1,049 yards with a 3.9 yards-per-carry average in 13 games.
While the average isn’t flashy, he did his work facing stacked eight- and nine-man boxes thanks to a ball-control offense predicated on not turning the ball over (read: Blake Bortles interceptions) and allowing an elite Jaguars defense to do its job.
He plans to show his appreciation for his offensive line by rewarding them — five starters and two backups — with Rolex watches.
“I couldn’t do it myself,” Fournette told reporters Thursday. “I can’t block 11 guys on my own. That’s the O-line and wide receivers, too. They played a big part of contributing to me getting 1,000 yards.”
Cam Robinson, Patrick Omameh, Brandon Linder, A.J. Cann, Jermey Parnell, Tyler Shatley and, and Josh Wells will all be sporting new wrist jewelry on Friday, Fournette said.
The watches will be personalized with player numbers and initials.
Cost wasn’t discussed. But with Fournette, the fourth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, signing a fully-guaranteed rookie deal worth $27 million with a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $18 million, we can assume the watches weren’t too much of a financial burden.
As for the wide receivers he gave a shout-out, they apparently didn’t make the Rolex cut.
Regardless, it’s a solid gesture from the rookie running back heading into Sunday’s wild-card matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
