Jada Pinkett Smith has opened up about her relationship with Tupac Shakur in a new interview.

Speaking with Christal Jackson of Rolling Out, the actress elaborated on the close bond she and the rapper shared, describing their connection as a “soulmate friendship.”

“If there is such a thing as past lives, I definitely think that Pac and I have traveled a few together,” she detailed.

The Girls Trip star continued, “There was no chemistry between us,” detailing how a romantic relationship “wasn’t the purpose.”

“It was like God made us that way,” explained the 52-year-old.” It was like, look, I’m going to put y’all together, right? Y’all are going to be a dynamic duo. But I’m going to tell you right now, I’m going to make it so y’all are not going to be able to get together ’cause that just wasn’t the purpose.”

Pinkett Smith often uses social media to reflect on her time shared with Shakur before his death in 1996. Last month, she uploaded a video of the duo from their high school days in Baltimore. In the clip, they lip-sync to Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff’s 1988 hit, “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”

Last month, developments in the investigation of the “Dear Mama” rapper’s longtime-unsolved murder led to the arrest of Duane “Keefe D” Davis for murder with a deadly weapon. Law enforcement believes that although Davis did not pull the trigger, he facilitated the violent crime.

“Now I hope we can get some answers and have some closure,” expressed Pinkett Smith.
