Jacob Tremblay Pays Tribute to 6-Year-Old South Carolina Shooting Victim

Children — like Jacob Tremblay — give us hope for the future.

The charming young star of The Room could do anything he wanted to mark his 10th birthday, which is today. He opted to celebrate it by donning a superhero costume in honor of another Jacob: 6-year-old Jacob Hall, who died Saturday after being shot at Townville Elementary School in South Carolina.

The child star shared a photo of himself in his Iron Man costume. He was making a heart with his hands.

“Today is my 10th birthday & I am dressed as a superhero to honor another special Jacob,” he wrote. “I wish that Jacob Hall’s family & friends feel lots of love & peace today.”

When a 14-year-old allegedly opened fire on Hall’s school playground on Sept. 28, the kindergartner was shot in the leg. The bullet hit his femoral artery, causing massive blood loss leading to cardiopulmonary arrest. Two other students and a female teacher were also injured, but they were treated and released. The shooter, who has been charged in juvenile court, also killed his father earlier in the day.

Hall’s funeral, held on Wednesday, was superhero themed, as he was an avid fan. Mourners dressed as Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Captain America, and others to pay tribute to the sweet boy. During the event, which was streamed online, Hall was eulogized by a man dressed in a Batman suit, and there was even a Batmobile parked out outside.

One speaker during the service talked about superhero stories being about good versus evil, saying, “We live in a dark world,” but “the good” will prevail.

In a statement his parents released after his death, they noted, “Jacob has already forgiven this child for what he did to him and his family because that’s the kind of child he was.”
