Jacob Elordi Reveals He Turned Down Reading for Superman Role: 'That's Too Dark for Me'

"No, thank you. That’s too much," the actor, 26, said in an interview with GQ

Jacob Elordi won’t be wearing a red cape anytime soon.

The 26-year-old revealed in a new interview that he was asked to read for the part of Superman, which he promptly turned down.

“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” Elordi told GQ. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

When asked if he would ever play a superhero, the actor — who stars on the cover of GQ's 28th annual Man of the Year issue — said in response, “Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’ And obviously, anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that.”

Elordi admitted that he gets “restless” watching superhero films and that he would “like to make what I would watch.”

The Priscilla star’s comments come after it was announced in June that David Corenswet will play Superman, aka Clark Kent, in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

Corenswet, 29, follows actors Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh, and, most recently, Henry Cavill, who departed the role in December in a decision made by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Elordi, who currently stars as Elvis Presley in the new film Priscilla, shared that he has been called “pretentious” over his attention to the types of parts he plays, to his puzzlement.

“How is caring about your output pretentious?” the actor told GQ. “But not caring, and knowingly feeding people s—, knowing that you’re making money off of people’s time, which is literally the most valuable thing that they have – how is that the cool thing?”

Elsewhere in the interview, Elodri spoke about how he felt taking on his latest role as Elvis opposite Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley, a year after Austin Butler’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of the music icon.

“It certainly crossed my mind briefly before I’d read the script. I don’t want to tell the same story over, especially because he did such a fine job of portraying this man,” Elordi told GQ.

“It’s a completely different thing. And it’s terribly exciting, too, running into the fire a little bit. I can’t think of anything more exhilarating.”
