Even Jacob Elordi, Hollywood’s reigning heartthrob of the 2020s, can’t help but fall head over heels for himself — literally. The actor will make his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live this weekend, and he’s feeling the pressure. It’s not that he has to worry about his charm translating on stage; he’s pretty much got that part nailed down. It’s more so that in all his preparation for the big night, no one has coached him through the most essential part: walking down the three steps leading to the stage.

“They all make it look so easy,” Elordi says in the latest promo clip for the episode. In a second, his mind flashes through the grand entrances that previous hosts Megan Thee Stallion, Kim Kardashian, Zac Efron, and more have made for their own monologues. The actor enlists SNL cast members Marcello Hernandez and Punkie Johnson to usher him through training. “You got this, it’s just a step!” they encourage like a pair of parents teaching their toddler how to walk. This man is never beating the baby girl accusations.

Elordi tries sliding down the stairs, rolling down on his side, scooting down on his butt, getting a running start, and every other trick in the book. When he finally musters up the courage to just go for it, with no hesitation, he emerges from behind the door to the stage with a charming smile on his face — then he takes one step and completely faces plants. The sound of him slamming into the ground is the kind that makes everyone around him flinch as if it happened to them.

It’s all good, though. He still has a few days to get it together before the cameras roll on Saturday. Musical guest Reneé Rapp will be in the building and probably steal the spotlight from him anyway.
