Jacob Elordi Admits He Mostly Knew About Elvis Presley from “Lilo & Stitch” Before Playing Singer in “Priscilla”

Jacob Elordi's awareness of Elvis Presley growing up was mostly limited to a Disney cartoon.

The Euphoria star portrays the rock 'n' roll icon in the new Sofia Coppola film Priscilla. While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Elordi, 26, made the admission about not knowing much about Presley outside of the 2002 animated Disney film, Lilo & Stitch.

Host Fallon, 49, asked, "Growing up, were you an Elvis fan?" The actor responded, "No. The most I knew of Elvis was in Lilo & Stitch ... which is a lot, by the way."

In Lilo & Stitch, Lilo teaches her blue alien friend Stitch to be a fan of Presley, with several of his famous songs on the soundtrack. The film was written and directed by Christopher Sanders and Dean DeBlois.

For the movie's 20th anniversary last year, DeBlois told Vulture they at first "didn’t think that we would ever be able to license the music or be able to depict Elvis in the movie."

"We figured at some point someone was going to pull us aside and say, 'You can’t do that.' But representatives of the Elvis estate came out to look at our story reels, and they got behind it," he said.

"So strangely we found ourselves having a premiere at Graceland. We got a special tour of the vault at Graceland where we took a look at these crazy rhinestone jumpsuits...."

Prior to his Priscilla casting, Elordi spoke about being inspired by Presley in an August 2022 GQ interview, which noted that the actor bought Peter Guralnick's Presley biography Last Train to Memphis after seeing the Baz Luhrmann movie Elvis's trailer.

"I was just like, damn, Elvis Presley wanted to be James Dean. He wanted to be Marlon Brando. I've researched almost every actor from that time period, and I passed [Elvis] off as an entertainer and singer," said Elordi at the time.

"But then he was an actor. I guess, in a way, I'm trying to learn from these people. Because I obviously don't have any friends that have been through the same thing, really, so they're almost like guiding beacons."

He added that an old interview with Presley stuck out to him as being relatable to his own experiences in Hollywood.

"He was talking, and he was so charming to the press, but you could see in his eyes that he was just tired," said Elordi. "He's like, 'I'm tired, man. I only get four, five hours of sleep, I'm tired.' That's really sad to me, because it's a different period of time and it's someone who's gone 10 billion times anything I've experienced, but the same kind of feeling."

Priscilla is in theaters Nov. 3.
