Oh, my heck! A new survey found that Jacksonville is the third-most foul-mouthed city in America.

The survey of 1,500 residents of 30 large U.S. cities found that, on average, people use swear words 18 times per day. In Jacksonville, though, that number is 28 per day, good for third in the nation behind Columbus, Ohio (36 per day), and Las Vegas (30 per day). No other Florida cities made the list.

Residents of Phoenix and Portland, Ore., can apparently hold their tongues; the survey found people who live there only swear 14 times a day.

The survey also found that the average age at which respondents started swearing was 11 and that the places they were most likely to use dirty words were at work, in front of strangers and at the dinner table. Surprisingly, only 7 percent said they swear the most while driving. Less than half said they were most likely to swear in front of children.

Other findings from the survey:

• 54 percent said the person they are most likely to swear at is themselves.

• The most likely scenarios to start people swearing were accidentally hurting themselves, expressing road rage and receiving bad news.

• 7 percent of respondents claimed they don't use swear words at all.

• Favorite swear-word substitutions include "fudge," "shoot," "frick," "dang," "heck" and "holy cow."
