Jacksonville-area restaurant roundup: 8 opened or closed in June
June saw the abrupt closure of a chicken and biscuit chain’s three Jacksonville-area restaurants as well as the shuttering of a St. Augustine fine dining destination.
Meanwhile, the first rooftop restaurant with a menu as elegant as its oceanfront view opened in Ponte Vedra Beach. And a popular French café opened its third restaurant in Jacksonville.
In addition, two new doughnut shops opened, including one from a Jacksonville couple dedicated to their son who has autism.

Bojangles
Five years after opening its fourth Northeast Florida restaurant in St. Augustine and plans to open as many as five more in the area, Bojangles closed abruptly three of its corporate-owned standalone restaurants in Jacksonville and Orange Park on June 25, including 4463 Deerwood Lake Parkway and 13559 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville and 492 Blanding Blvd. location in Orange Park. Le Petit Paris
An authentic taste of France is on the menu as the third Le Petit Paris cafe opened June 30 at 7111 Bentley Road off JTB near Interstate 95 in Southpoint. The cafe is known for its made freshly made quiche, tartines and other pastries, salads, baguettes and croissant sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches and more. Coffee, espresso and tea are among the top beverages. The new restaurant joins Le Petit locations at 9965 San Jose Blvd., Suite 46 and 363 Atlantic Blvd. Suite 14 in Atlantic Beach.
1912 Ocean Bar & Rooftop
Offering a sophisticated menu and scenic oceanfront views, 1912 Ocean Bar & Rooftop opened June 27 at the Cabana Beach Club of Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach. The first rooftop restaurant in Ponte Vedra, it focuses on fresh seafood, hand-cut beef filet and small-bite offerings accentuated by craft cocktails as well as fine wines and craft beers. | Read more
Butt Hutt Smokehouse
Butt Hutt Smokehouse, a wildly popular Jacksonville food truck that introduced Florida-style barbecue statewide and beyond, is now serving up its savory and sweet pecan wood-smoked brisket, ribs and jerk chicken from a newly opened brick-and-mortar restaurant at 3210 Roosevelt Blvd. in the Riverside neighborhood near Murray Hill. It's nestled in the heart of an island-like lot between Roosevelt Boulevard, Day Avenue and Randall Street. | Read more
Preserved
After seven years, Preserved, a St. Augustine fine-dining restaurant that built a reputation for an inspired farm-to-table menu focusing on "authentic Southern cuisine with a French flair," closed permanently. The restaurant, at 102 Bridge St. in the two-story Jefferson House with its broad, wrap-around porch in the historic Lincolnville neighborhood of downtown St. Augustine, shuttered its doors June 17. | Read more
Doughfee Donuts & Coffee
Ube Dream, Creme Brulee, Sandy Beach Day and other gourmet doughnuts made from scratch daily along with handcrafted Cambodian-style eggrolls and freshly brewed coffee top the menu of Doughfee Donuts & Coffee. The cafe opened at 3928 Baymeadows Road No. 4 in The Shops of Goodby's Creek near San Jose Boulevard. The doughnut shop was opened by a Jacksonville couple inspired by their son who has autism. | Read more
Jerimiah's Italian Ice
Jerimiah's Italian Ice opened its seventh Northeast Florida dessert shop on June 24 at 4434 Hendricks Ave. near San Marco. It offers more than 40 flavors of Italian Ice flavors, creamy soft ice cream and Gelati. The gelati is layers of any flavor of Italian ice with soft ice cream. The desserts are made fresh daily.
Parlor Doughnuts
Parlor Doughnuts opened its third Jacksonville-area location on May 18 at 528 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach at the site of the former Wonderbird, which closed earlier this year. It is the first Parlor Doughnuts in Northeast Florida to have a drive-thru. The doughnut and specialty coffee concept is known for making its unique, artisanal doughnuts to order in small batches. | Read more
