Jackie Chan on Trump Presidency: ‘Just Give Him a Chance’

Like most red carpet events in Hollywood, the Governors Awards on Nov. 12 were an opportunity for actors to talk up their latest projects. But in the wake of Donald Trump’s surprise election win, it also was an opportunity for some stars to discuss what they are expecting from a Trump presidency.

Jackie Chan, who was awarded an honorary Oscar at the ceremony, told Yahoo Celebrity: “Just give him a chance to try to change America and change the world. He’s a businessman… I think he knows how to handle these types of things.”

Pharrell focused not on Trump but the American people. He said: “I think you’ll see minorities come together in ways that are unmatched. I think women will stick together, because there’s power in numbers.”

Pharrell thinks that Trump’s election will also affect artists like himself: “You’re going to hear some incredible music. Pressure in society will make amazing creativity.”

And singer Janelle Monae spoke about being hopeful, but cautious, about a Trump presidency, saying, “I hope that when he gets into the White House, everything that he based his campaign on is there no more.”
