Jack Hogan, Combat!’s Kirby, Dead at 94

Jack Hogan, an actor who starred in ABC’s Combat! for 111 episodes, died Dec. 6 of natural causes at his home in Bainbridge Island, Wash. He was 94 years old.

The news was confirmed to Variety by his son West.

Hogan played PFC William G. Kirby on Combat!, starring alongside Rick Jason, Vic Morrow and Pierre Jalbert. The show ran for five seasons and follows a squad of American soldiers fighting the Germans in France during WWII.

The actor guest-starred on multiple television series during the ’50s and ’60s including Dr. Christian, The Rough Riders, Sea Hunt, Tombstone Territory, Lock Up, Bat Masterson, Lawman, 87th Precinct and more. In the ’70s, he appeared on The Six Million Dollar Man, Adam-12, Emergency!, Hawaii Five-O, Switch and S.W.A.T., among others. His final credit was a couple of guest appearances on Raven in 1992 and 1993, where he starred for two episodes as Professor Patrick Stucky. That series chronicled the life of its titular ninja and ex-Special Forces soldier Jonathan Raven.

On the film side of things, Hogan worked on The Bonnie Parker Story, Paratroop Command, The Legend of Tom Dooley and The Cat Burglar.

In addition to acting, Hogan worked in the casting department for Magnum, P.I. from 1981 to 1983.
