Jaboukie Young-White, Issa Rae Team for ‘Gang’s All Queer’ Series at HBO

Jaboukie Young-White is set to develop the book “The Gang’s All Queer: The Lives of Gay Gang Members” by Vanessa R. Panfil at HBO with Issa Rae attached as an executive producer.

In the half-hour series, a closeted twenty-something in Chicago, grieving a gang-related death, ditches college to find reckless closure.

Young-White will write and executive produce the project. Rae will executive produce under her Hoorae banner along with Montrel McKay. Hoorae’s Sara Rastogi will co-executive produce. Jonathan Berry, Olivia Gerke, and Dave Becky of 3 Arts will also executive produce. Variety exclusively reported in March that Rae and Hoorae had signed a sizable new overall deal with WarnerMedia.

Young-White broke out when his Twitter and Instagram posts began going viral. He is an accomplished stand up comedian and has written for shows such as “Big Mouth” and “American Vandal” at Netflix. He is also known for his work as a correspondent for “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” at Comedy Central.

He is repped by CAA, 3 Arts, and Lev Ginsburg.

Rae is currently filming the fifth and final season of the hit HBO comedy “Insecure,” which she stars in and co-created. Rae is also currently an executive producer on Robin Thede’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” at HBO, with the second season of that series having debuted in April. It has already been renewed for a third.

Upcoming television projects for Rae include the docuseries “Seen & Heard” and the backyard wrestling drama “Tre Cnt” at HBO, as well as the hip hop comedy “Rap Sh*t” at HBO Max. On the film side, Hoorae label has a “Set It Off” remake in the works at New Line.
