Jaafar Jackson comes from a very famous family.

The 27-year-old actor, who is Michael Jackson’s nephew, is slated to play the King of Pop in a new biopic.

Jaafar was selected for the role after a worldwide casting search was conducted, of which producer Graham King said, "It was clear that he is the only person to take on this role."

As filming for the project kicked off, the first look of Jaafar in character was shared in February 2024, in which he bears an uncanny resemblance to his late uncle.

Though the film will mark Jaafar’s acting debut, he is no stranger to the spotlight. As the son of Jermaine Jackson of the Jackson 5 and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza, he developed a passion for performing at a young age and has appeared in a number of family-oriented projects over the years, including 2015's The Jacksons: Next Generation.

Here’s everything to know about Jaafar’s parents.

Jermaine is the fourth eldest child of Joe and Katherine Jackson and the older brother of Michael Jackson. He was one of the original members of the Jackson Brothers in 1964 alongside his brothers Tito, Jermaine and Jackie, before the group was renamed the Jackson 5 to include Marlon and Michael in 1966.

Jermaine was with the Jackson 5 from 1964 to 1975 as a second vocalist and bass player. He later rejoined the group in 1983 as they rebranded to the Jacksons.

In addition to having incredible success with his brothers in the Jackson 5, including receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Jermaine also had success as a solo artist in the 1980s, including a Grammy nomination for his album 1980 album Let's Get Serious and various top 30 hits on the Billboard charts. He also produced music for other artists, including Switch and Whitney Houston's debut album.

Alejandra is a fashion designer

Alejandra, who originally hails from Colombia, is a fashion designer. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in fashion design and marketing, she created her company Alejandra Jackson Designs, which translates “the Colombian and Peruvian cultures of textiles into an array of handmade designs,” per her LinkedIn.

According to her profile, her company’s mission is to “create beautiful designs by respecting the environment” and “continuing to practice and maintain traditional textile techniques and passing the skills from generation to generation as an integral part of life.”

Jermaine was previously married to Motown founder Berry Gordy's daughter, Hazel Gordy. The couple was together from 1973 to 1988, during which they welcomed three children: Jermaine La Jaune "Jay" Jackson Jr. born in January 1977, Autumn Joi Jackson born in June 1978 and Jaimy Jermaine Jackson born in March 1987.

Jermaine was also in a relationship with producer Margaret Maldonado, with whom he welcomed two more children: sons Jeremy Maldonado Jackson born in December 1986 and Jourdynn Michael Jackson born in January 1989.

Alejandra previously dated Jermaine’s brother

Before getting together with Jermaine, Alejandra was in a relationship with his younger brother Randy. The couple met in 1986, when she was about 17 and Randy was 24, and dated for several years, per The New York Post.

Though they never tied the knot, they did welcome two children together, a daughter named Genevieve Katherine Jackson born in 1989 and a son named Steven Randall Jackson, Jr. born in 1992.

Jermaine and Alejandra got married in 1995

The couple tied the knot on March 18, 1995, and were together for over eight years before Jermaine filed for divorce in 2004. Their divorce was eventually finalized in 2008 as Alejandra was granted physical custody of their children and Jermaine was ordered to pay $3,000 a month in child support, TMZ reported at the time.

During their marriage, Jermaine and Alejandra welcomed two children together, Jaafar Jeremiah Jackson born in July 1996 and Jermajesty Jermaine Jackson born in October 2000. Alejandra also raised Donte Jackson, the adopted son of Katherine and Joe Jackson, per Deadline.

Jaafar and Jermajesty appear to have a good relationship with their half-siblings. In 2015, Alejandra’s five children (pictured above with Alejandra), including Donte and her kids from her relationship with Randy, were all slated to appear on a reality TV series titled Living with the Jacksons, which was meant to follow Alejandra as she raised her children under one roof.

As Randy and Alejandra’s daughter Genevieve explained their family situation in the show’s trailer, she joked, “That might seem a little strange for people, but thank God it was in the family."

Though the show was later scrapped, a handful of them appeared on the 2015 reality series The Jacksons: Next Generation.

Jermaine got remarried after divorcing Alejandra

In August 2004, Jermaine got married for a third time to Halima Rashid. The couple was together for almost 12 years before Halima filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences, according to divorce papers obtained by PEOPLE.

The filing, which listed their date of separation as Nov. 28, 2015, per E! News, came after Halima was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of domestic violence in 2015. She was not charged and the case was later closed, TMZ reported at the time.

Following the news of their divorce, Halima released a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “With a great amount of sorrow and regret, I today announce that I am filing for divorce from Jermaine Jackson.”

“We have enjoyed many good times during our marriage of nearly 12 years, but we have reached a point where our lives would be better and more productive if we are not married. I respect and care for Jermaine and his legendary family, and feel blessed to have been a part of the Jacksons,” the statement continued.

Through the years, Jermaine has attended many events with his children, including Jaafar. In July 2009, a month after Michael’s death, Jermaine was joined by his youngest sons Jaafar and Jermajesty as the Save the World Awards paid tribute to the late King of Pop.

Jaafar and Jermajesty also paid tribute to their uncle in June 2011 as Jermaine helped unveil The Michael Jackson Experience at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood.
