Plot details for “Demimonde,” which was the subject of a bidding war between HBO and Apple, are still being kept under tight wraps, but the series is described as an epic and intimate sci-fi fantasy drama that deals with a world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force, exploring the lengths a family will go to find their missing child. Abrams will write and executive produce, with Ben Stephenson–head of television for Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions–also serving as an executive producer.

The series will be produced by Bad Robot in association with Warner Bros. Television and HBO. Bad Robot and Abrams are currently under a bumper overall deal at HBO parent company WarnerMedia.

As part of the appointment, Snyder has signed an overall deal with HBO. Her previous credits also include the WB TV and CW series “The 100.” She co-wrote the 2018 “Pacific Rim” sequel and has also penned pilots for LucasFilm, Amazon and FX. Snyder is represented by Gersh, Echo Lake and Tara Senior at Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano.

Meanwhile Ravich and Shariat have signed an extension to their prior overall deal with the premium cabler. News of their involvement with “Demimonde” extends their relationship with HBO, as the duo were recently developing a “Game of Thrones” spinoff, which sources say is still in contention. Their TV producing credits include the NBC cop drama “Life,” starring Damian Lewis, and the thriller “Crisis.” Ravich also created Fox’s sci-fi-themed “Second Chance.” Their feature producing credits include George Clooney’s ”Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” as well as ”The Astronaut’s Wife,” the 1999 film written and directed by Ravich.

Ravich is represented by attorney Carlos Goodman , Shariat by attorney Jeffrey Frankel.

Deadline first reported the news.
