More than 350 fans packed the House of Insanity, the Robert A. Hutchinson FOP Hall, Wednesday to witness IWR-22. The night featured The Insane Rumble, three title matches and the first round of the inaugural IWR Kangaroo Cup Tag Team tournament.

The night began with four VIP matches consisting of the first round of the IWR Kangaroo Cup. The Kangaroo Cup will be an annual tournament paying homage to The Fabulous Kangaroos, a professional wrestling tag team, in various forms from 1957-83. The Kangaroos are regarded as one of the top tag teams to ever compete in professional wrestling and are often credited with popularizing tag team wrestling in the late 1950s and 1960s. In 2003, The Fabulous Kangaroos were the first tag team to be inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, which started a tradition of inducting a new team every year. The winners of IWR Kangaroo Cup Trophy get a shot at the IWR World Tag Team titles whenever they choose.

The first Kangaroo Cup match had Honkrageous (The Kenny Urban and Rodrageous Rod Lee) defeating the Eh Team Special Forces, Amazing N8 Mattson and Rear Commander Cody.

Next, the fans watched Death Threat Army’s Isaiah Broner and The Lovable Psychopath Tommy Vendetta destroy the team of Buckeye Sam and his coach Dutch, then The Gold Standard’s Damian Chambers and Grimy Zach Thomas with the help of their manager, The 24k Lion Jeremiah Goldmain, beat the team of Top Tier Tanner Nix and The Anti-Ikon Nikki Ratu. The first round ended with Death Threat Army’s second team, Aaron Orion and Impact’s Wrestling’s The Black Diamond Jack Price, winning a hard-fought match against The Saint Brothers, Chase Capazo and Corey Saint. Next month, the semifinal round will be DTA’s Isaiah Broner and Tommy Vendetta taking on The Gold Standard and DTA’s Aaron Orion and Jack Price battling Honkrageous.

During the intermission, fans were able to watch another episode of “The Bachelor Pad” with Benjamin Boone and his special guest The Most Dangerous Man in Michigan, The DBA.

The first of three IWR title matches started off the night’s main card when Impact Wrestling Superstar and Bullet Club member Ace Austin declared an open challenge for his IWR United States title. IWR rising star KJ Reynolds accepted the challenge. The two superstars gave the crowd an action-packed, high-flying title match. In the end, Ace pinned KJ and retained his title.

The IWR World Tag Team Title match featured The Rascalz Myron Reed and Trey Miguel, who was unable to compete. Impact Wrestling Superstar Top Notch Jason Hotch stepped in to compete against Shogun Jackson Stone and his tag partner Papa Dingo. The duo won the titles when Hotch ducked forcing Shogun to throw powder in Reed’s face, allowing Dingo to roll him up and become the new IWR World Tag Team Champions.

Next in the ring was Impact’s Jessicka and Mean Gia Miller set to face off and settle last month’s encounter. Jessicka was disqualified, allowing Miller to pick up the win. After the match, Buckeye Sam, Dutch and Jessicka attacked Miller in the ring, creating an ongoing feud.

IWR World Heavyweight Champion King Latimer was set to defend his crown against Impact’s Death Machine Sami Callihan. Latimer made accusations that Callihan was running from him with a fake story about not being cleared to wrestle and that nobody is dangerous enough to challenge him for the title. Upon leaving the ring, the Most Dangerous Man in Michigan, The DBA, entered the room and the two men fought throughout the House of Insanity. Toward the end of the match, the CWO’s Eh Team Special Forces and manager John E Bravo got involved allowing King Latimer to retain his IWR World Title.

The night’s main event featured the Insane Rumble, where two wrestlers start off, then a new one comes out to join every 60 seconds. The match started with Damian Chambers and Ryan Mathias, followed by Zach Thomas, Dread King Logan, Madman Fulton and many others. The crowd went crazy when former WWE superstar Heath Slater entered the ring. Heath and Chambers were the final two competitors in an Insane Rules match. The Saint Brothers made an appearance, this time bringing a table and setting it in the ring. Heath power bombed Chambers through the table and pinned him to become the 2023 Insane Rumble winner.

Immediately after winning, Heath grabbed the mic to address the crowd about the match. He spoke of how difficult it was and how much he loved the IWR fans. He then proceeded to mention how Sami Callihan and King Latimer were fighting for the IWR World Heavyweight title at IWR-23 and declared a triple threat match. The mood quickly changed when the entire CWO team came out and warned Heath about the next IWR event. As the CWO approached the ring, the crowd cheered for The Man Beast Rhino who came out with a steel chair in hand chasing away the CWO. The IWR superstar grabbed the mic and declared he will return in September.
