Ivanka Trump's Friendship With Kim Kardashian Goes Back Further Than Her White House Days

Ivanka Trump’s friendship with Kim Kardashian seems to have grown stronger in recent months after being spotted together several times this fall. However, people might be surprised to learn that their bond goes back further than Donald Trump’s administration. The duo met almost a decade ago at one of the biggest red carpets of the fashion season.

The Met Gala in May 2014 is the first time they reportedly connected, according to Us Weekly. It was a special time in their lives for both of them because Kim was a new mom, having given birth to North West in June 2013, and Ivanka had her second child, Joseph Frederick Kushner, in October 2013. The hot topic between them that night was “motherhood and being new moms,” but the conversation wouldn’t end there. An insider told the media outlet that it was the start of a beautiful friendship as “they continued to connect numerous times over the years.”

They likely never expected that their social lives would become intertwined with politics. After Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, Kim had an easy side door to the White House to promote her prison reform causes. The women didn’t flash their friendship as they petitioned the president to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, but they showed solidarity in their tweets about the cause.

“It started with Ms. Alice, but looking at her and seeing the faces and learning the stories of the men and women I’ve met inside prisons I knew I couldn’t stop at just one. It’s time for REAL systemic change,” Kim wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Ivanka also chimed in with her own post, writing, “Great working session today at the White House on ways to improve the clemency process with policy leaders and criminal justice reform advocates.”

From there on out, the friendship was sealed in work and play, and Kim ignored any criticism of befriending someone from the controversial Trump family. Ivanka made the cut for Kim’s 43rd birthday in Beverly Hills where she championed her friends— she’s in the trusted inner circle. “So blessed to have hit the jackpot of friends! I couldn’t have ever dreamed I would be so lucky to call these girls my friends,” wrote the SKIMS founder on Instagram.

Kim and Ivanka’s friendship runs deep, and they are almost a decade into a bond that started on fashion’s biggest night. With their social circles crossing paths more frequently, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them announce a joint project together because it would likely align with both of their career and personal ambitions.
