Ivanka Trump took Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal” proposal to task in a recent interview with Fox News host Steve Hilton.
In a preview clip of a conversation that will air in full on Sunday’s The Next Revolution on Fox News, the first daughter and White House senior adviser was asked about Ocasio-Cortez’s new policy proposal that promises major jobs, infrastructure and a guaranteed minimum wage.
“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” Trump said. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. People want to work for what they get. So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”
Twitter was quick to respond with people questioning Trump’s statement.
I want to see Ivanka Trump doing a days work – preferably in one of her sweat shops – and understand what a living wage offers people #LivingWage

Glad Ivanka agrees that we should have a 100% tax on inheritance. https://t.co/55nY6cxope

Has Ivanka Trump ever had a job that her father did not give her? https://t.co/J3ST0eAix1

How much of Ivanka’s wealth comes from the wages she earns to work? https://t.co/TLRy5jBrMv

Others, however, agreed with Trump and came to her defense.
The American Dream is NOT a ‘guaranteed minimum’ – Ivanka is right https://t.co/Rj5mbRRtdK
