Gomorrah writers Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli have launched an ITV Studios-backed Italian indie with Cattleya, as ITV Studios unveils a second season of My Mum, Your Dad UK with Mipcom Cannes kicking off.

The new outfit, Dedalus, is aiming to develop and produce films and television series by building on the approach already seen in the collaboration between Cattleya and Fasoli – Ravagli to date. It said it will “foreground the role of research and innovation alongside that of the writers’ full engagement throughout the creative process.”

Dedalus is already working on two projects: Everything We Ever Wanted, a theatrical feature about a story of love and friendship amidst a mid-seventies Neapolitan mob, set during two different time periods and directed by Francesca Comencini.  The second project, Erba, a television series based on one of Italy’s most disturbing crime stories, will look carefully at the context in which the murders that horrified the nation in December 2006, and their aftermath, took place.

Gomorrah has been a huge hit for ITV Studios and Sky and a prequel is now in the offing.

“Over the years we have formed a special bond with Leonardo and Maddalena, based on a unique way of working together which actively involves them at every stage of our shared projects,” said Cattleya founder Riccardo Tozzi.

Fasoli and Ravagli added: “Our long-time collaboration with Cattleya and the great adventures we have shared have allowed us to be thoroughly involved in our projects, starting with the writing process and continuing throughout shooting.  This has quite organically led to a new vehicle for our shared storytelling.”

‘My Mum, Your Dad’

Meanwhile, Love Island-esque ITV Studios format My Mum, Your Dad has been recommissioned in the UK.

Taking older singletons and putting them together in a house while their kids watch from an adjourning property, the show has been warmly received for its humor and heart since launching last month. It is produced by Love Island maker Lifted Entertainment and airs in around 10 other countries, with ITV Studios actively selling it at Mipcom. Casting has begun on Season 2.

“The heartfelt reaction to this show was incredible and we are absolutely delighted that ITV are bringing it back for another series,” said Lifted MD Richard Cowles.
