Isla Fisher’s personal life has been thrust under the spotlight, notably her divorce from comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. The separation caught the public’s attention not only for its timing — which eerily overlapped with Rebel Wilson’s accusations against Cohen — but also for its seemingly amicable nature, centered around differences in family planning and hectic schedules. Amidst this backdrop, Fisher’s upcoming cinematic venture, Divorceés, seems to reflect more than just fiction.

Divorceés isn’t just another entry in Fisher’s impressive filmography—it’s a potential window into the star’s own experiences. Written by Kimmy Gatewood and Alison Becker, with Gatewood at the helm as director, the film dives into the lives of three divorced women on a quest for post-marital redemption. Their plan? To outshine their exes at a family wedding with the most stunning dates they can muster, only to discover the true essence of love and the empowering realization that divorce doesn’t spell failure.

InTouchWeekly insiders tease that Divorceés will be peppered with “lots of subtle references to Fisher’s own life,” inviting fans to speculate on art mimicking reality. Given Fisher’s recent navigations through the choppy waters of public separation, it’s easy to ponder if her portrayal will draw from personal insights, lending an authentic edge to her performance.

It seems that Fisher’s real-life experiences have a knack for shaping her choice of roles. In a chat with SheKnows back in January, the actress opened up about how her role as a mother played a pivotal part in her decision to bring to life the Tooth Fairy in Wolf Like Me. “Having kids is so transformative in every sense, physically, emotionally, psychologically, and becoming a mother or a father just fills up every space in your life,” Fisher told SheKnows. “And it’s such a gigantic shift. So I feel like I really enjoyed cracking that open with these characters in this world.”

Fisher and Baron Cohen posted joint statements on Instagram announcing their breakup on April 5 via Instagram stories. “After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” Fisher wrote alongside a photo with Baron Cohen.

“In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage,” she wrote. “We have always prioritized our privacy and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”
