Is Return of 'Tremors' Inspired by Success of 'Sharknado'? We Asked Michael Gross

After the original 1990 cult classic and three subsequent direct-to-DVD sequels, it has been 11 years since the last Tremors movie. In the interim, a little horror series called Sharknado shot out of the water and became a Twitterverse sensation.

The two series are undeniably similar — schlocky, self-aware, and over-the-top creature features that deliver blood spurts with a big fat wink. And the face of the Tremors franchise, Michael Gross, owns up to the fact that his new sequel, Tremors 5: Bloodlines, owes its return, at least in some part, to the surprising success of those flying sharks.

“This latest Tremors is influenced by what’s happened the last 11, 12, 13 years,” Gross, who plays monster hunter Burt Gummer, told Yahoo Movies (watch above). “[Bloodlines] is a Tremors for this generation. It will harken back to the other Tremors, but it’s got a feeling and a pace that is far more today.”

Tremors 5: Bloodlines is available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital HD Tuesday.
