Next week’s Iron Bowl looms as a massive game for the SEC West and, possibly, the College Football Playoff.

But here’s a reminder for Alabama and Auburn fans to not take the rivalry too seriously.

A man in Mobile, Alabama, shot another man on Monday after they were allegedly arguing over which of the two in-state rivals was superior. From Al.com:

Mobile police responded to a call concerning a person who was shot at a motel on East I-65 Service Road South at 7:53 p.m. The victim told authorities he was arguing with another man when the shooter asked him which football team is better. The shooter became angry, pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in the thigh before fleeing the scene, police said.

As of Tuesday, the suspect hadn’t been apprehended. And it’s also currently unknown the team the suspect preferred.

Alabama, 10-0, ascended to No. 1 in Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings thanks to Georgia’s loss. The Bulldogs lost to Auburn, which is now 8-2 and sits at No. 6. The winner of the Nov. 24 game between Alabama and Auburn will win the SEC West and a victory in the SEC championship game will likely mean a spot in the College Football Playoff.

We hope there are no injuries from disputes during and after the Iron Bowl.
