Irish Boxer Gives Foul-Mouthed Interview After Olympic Loss

Olympic bantam weight boxer Michael Conlan, from Ireland, gave an interview after a controversial loss to Russian Vladimir Nikitin on Tuesday, and he was not afraid to air his feelings on the Olympic judges and the International Boxing Association (AIBA). Immediately after the decision was announced, Conlan flipped off the judges.

Speaking with Irish television station RTE, Conlan blamed the AIBA for the loss, calling those running the group cheats and accusing them of “paying everybody.” Conlan also said he will never box for AIBA again, stating that amateur boxing stinks.

Of the Olympics, Conlan said, “I was here to win Olympic gold. My dream’s been shattered now.”

In the brief interview, Conlan also touched on his future as a boxer, saying that he’s got a big career ahead of him. He also said that he feels he is going back to Ireland a winner and that this loss to Nikitin just shows how corrupt the AIBA is.
