Iowa touchdown taken away because of lame high-stepping penalty
College football officials seem to be cracking down on fun this season.
Two weeks ago we saw a Missouri touchdown taken off the board just because running back Damarea Crockett dove into the end zone. On Saturday, Iowa’s Akrum Wadley had a 74-yard touchdown catch against North Texas called back because he had the audacity to high-step into the end zone.
The horror!
Wadley was flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct so the ball was moved back to the North Texas 21-yard-line (the penalty occurred at the six, I guess) instead of six points for the Hawkeyes. The NCAA rulebook says an act that is “very demonstrative” or considered to be taunting can result in a touchdown being taken away.

Sigh.
The lame call from the officials ended up not costing Iowa any points. It took seven additional plays, but the Hawkeyes eventually returned to the end zone when Nathan Stanley hit T.J. Hockenson for an eight-yard score, tying the game at 7-7.
Iowa went on to win 31-14.
