Iowa State-West Virginia game halted as fans point laser beam at Cyclones

West Virginia fans in Morgantown had a lot to cheer about in the first half of Saturday’s game against No. 15 Iowa State, but shining a laser beam onto the field wasn’t the right way to show their excitement.

As WVU led the Cyclones 20-0 with just under two minutes left in the second quarter, a fan decided to shine a laser beam on Iowa State’s kicking team. But you know, that’s not allowed … anywhere, at any time, ever.

So, after the referees tried to find the source of the laser beam — with two referees seemingly pointing in opposite directions trying to figure it out — it was announced to the crowd in Morgantown that their antics would not be tolerated:

“We have a laser beam shined on the kicking team,” the referee announced.

After a brief moment of confusion and frustration from the home crowd via some booing, Iowa State kicker Garrett Owens hit a 42-yard field goal. No laser beams were in sight on the play and no penalties were assessed to West Virginia.
