Iowa State QB Jacob Park taking medical leave from team
Iowa State quarterback Jacob Park is not with the team for its game Saturday vs. Oklahoma.
The Cyclones said Friday night that Park was dealing with “personal medical concerns.” The team did not go into detail about those concerns.
“Jacob is a great young man dealing with some personal medical concerns,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said in a statement. “We are committed to helping him cope, supporting him on all levels and helping him prepare to get back on the playing field with his teammates as soon as possible.”
Park, who began his college career at Georgia, has been Iowa State’s starting quarterback in 2017 and is the only player to have thrown a pass for the team. He’s 100-162 passing for 1,181 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
“We are focused on helping Jacob in any way we can,” Campbell said. “I know how important the football team is to Jacob and how important Jacob is to the football team. But, supporting one another in difficult times is where our focus is.”
Joel Lanning, who split time with Park last year at quarterback, is now the team’s starting middle linebacker. Either Zeb Noland or Kyle Kempt could be the team’s starter at quarterback Saturday.
