Iowa-based bakery Scratch Cupcakery will close its West Des Moines doors in 'just a few weeks'

Scratch Cupcakery is scratching its West Des Moines location, home to an ever-changing menu of cupcakes and cookies.

After 10 years, the Iowa cupcake company owned by Natalie Brown will close its only metro area storefront at 7450 Bridgewood Blvd., Suite 215, in "likely just a few weeks." Scratch is set to focus on its remaining locations in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Coralville and its Curbside mobile food truck.

Scratch's lease ends in November and the company addressed numerous challenges for small businesses over the past few years.

"We’ve overcome an enormous number of challenges and I’m so proud of the people on our team who believed in us, trusted us, and worked alongside us to figure it out," the company said in a Facebook post Thursday. "Sadly, a few remaining obstacles have continued to work against us, making it impossible to continue."

The local business thanked its loyal customer base for their support over the past decade.

"Our time at this location has definitely been a whirlwind, but at the end of the day I’m so incredibly proud of our small business," the post continued. "The donation impact we made locally, the customers we were blessed to know, the friends we made, and the relationships that will continue well past our closure are all massive successes."

Scratch is also rolling out updated hours, which are subject to change, in response to the closure. The West Des Moines stop will now be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday and open noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The shop is closed Mondays.

No additional orders will be taken, and outstanding gift cards will be honored at remaining locations.
