Sword Fight Your Way Through AMC's 'Into the Badlands' Trailer

To borrow the title of a Song of Ice and Fire novel, there’s a storm of swords on display in the trailer for AMC’s new martial arts adventure, Into the Baldands, which the network premiered for eager San Diego Comic-Con crowds. Created by Smallville masterminds Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and loosely based on the 16th century Chinese legend, Journey to the West, the series will follow a skilled warrior named Sunny (David Wu) escorting a young sidekick (Aramis Knight) through a perilous landscape filled with bandits, nomads, and despots.

That landscape is actually a dystopian America, one that’s been divided into seven different territories commanded by seven different barons. Hoping for a better life, Sunny plots an escape from his own baron, gambling that an uncertain future will be superior to his unpleasant present. But before he can be totally free, he has to battle armies of soldiers packing seriously sharp blades. The resulting battles look like The Matrix meets Zorro, with a dash of Jackie Chan thrown in. Based on this trailer, Into the Badlands seems like a trip worth taking.

Into the Badlands premieres in November on AMC.
